The best London itinerary groups nearby places and leaves room for queues, meals and the unexpected. It should not send you repeatedly across the city for attractions that could have been visited together.

Choose your plan

Time available Guide Pace
Three days Three days in London Essential landmarks, one major museum and the Tower
Five days Five days in London Central highlights plus Greenwich and neighbourhood time
One day Six one-day plans by interest Theatre, museums, families, food, first-time icons or a low-walking day

Planning rules

  • Reserve one timed headline attraction per half-day at most.
  • Group sights by neighbourhood.
  • Treat meals as part of the itinerary.
  • Check museum closing days and late openings.
  • Build a weather alternative.
  • Allow more time than a journey planner suggests when changing with children or luggage.
  • Do not book a theatre curtain five minutes after dinner is supposed to end.

Use the best areas guide to choose a base, then check transport fares and live TfL status.

Itineraries are frameworks. Confirm current opening hours and bookings for your dates.
