The best tacos in London
16 places
Cavita
££££Time Out's pick for the best Mexican in London - the tacos get the headlines but the point is the dishes nobody else in London cooks.
Club Mexicana
££Tacos, nachos and burritos built on jackfruit and vegan chicken, started as a market stall and now in Kingly Court - the rare vegan restaurant nobody eats at because it is vegan.
Also at Seven Dials Market and on Commercial Street in Spitalfields. Kingly Court is the sit-down one; the market sites are counters.
Comalera
£A Walthamstow stall pressing its own tortillas - the cheapest serious tacos on any of these lists.
Cometa
£££Mexican seafood specifically - tostadas, ceviche and aguachile rather than the meat-led menu everywhere else runs.
Corrochio's
£££Founder Daniel grew up in Guadalajara and trained in the Yucatan - the cooking is regional, and the cocktail bar runs long after the kitchen stops.
El Pastor
££Al pastor carved off the trompo, in a railway-arch room that has been the default London taqueria for years.
Guacamoles
£Hand-pressed tortillas dipped in birria juice before they hit the griddle, from a stall in Rye Lane Market.
Homies on Donkeys
£A Leytonstone taco counter that built a following on the strength of the tacos alone, with no room and no marketing to speak of.
La Chingada
£Al pastor, suadero, carnitas, chorizo and baja prawn - a southeast London taqueria that regulars rate above anything in zone 1.
Los Mochis London City
£££Mexican-Japanese nine floors above Broadgate Circle, with a 3,000 sq ft rooftop terrace facing St Paul's, open until 3am Thursday to Saturday.
Mexican Seoul
££Ashley Chipchase went from a Brick Lane street stall to a canalside room near Victoria Park in 2023, and the Korean-Mexican pairing turned out to be more than a gimmick.
Santo Remedio
£££Edson and Natalie Diaz-Fuentes cook the dishes most London Mexicans skip - mole negro, soft shell crab tacos, and guacamole topped with grasshopper.
Sonora Taqueria
££Flour tortillas rather than corn, because that is what northern Sonora eats - a regional distinction nowhere else in London bothers with.
Taca Tacos
££Six-hour beef birria and crisp baja fish tacos out of a Deptford railway arch, with margaritas to match.
Tacos Padre
££Corn nixtamalised on site and tortillas pressed to order at a Borough Market counter - the detail most taquerias skip.
Zapote
£££Part of the east London Mexican wave that has moved the centre of gravity away from the west end entirely.
