Cirilo Filipino Kainan
££A low, single-storey building tucked under the railway arches at the western end of Cable Street — walking in feels like ducking into a cottage.
Smith's of Wapping
££££Fish served plainly and well, in a dining room looking straight at Tower Bridge - the view is the reason and the kitchen does not fight it.
The Captain Kidd
££A converted warehouse laid out like a ship's hull, named for the pirate hanged a few yards away, with the biggest river terrace in Wapping.
The Dickens Inn
££An early-1700s warehouse moved bodily across the dock and re-erected as a pub, opened in 1976 by Charles Dickens's great-grandson. The three-storey timber balconies over the marina are the reason to come rather than the food.
Sit outside on the lower deck for the marina view - the upper balconies are pretty from below but further from the water.
The Melusine
£££Fish brought up from the coast daily, on a dock full of moored boats - the most pleasant place to sit outside in this part of London.
The Prospect of Whitby
££London's oldest riverside pub, trading since around 1520 - first as The Pelican, then the Devil's Tavern. The 400-year-old stone floor is still there.
Come for the building and the river, not the cooking. The Thames-facing terrace is the reason to time a visit for daylight.
The Town of Ramsgate
££A pub on this spot since at least 1545, long and narrow, opening onto a small river terrace beside Wapping Old Stairs and Execution Dock.
The Turk's Head
££A neighbourhood bistro running French classics at prices that have not followed the postcode.
Turner's Old Star
£An 1830 back-street local that JMW Turner is said to have owned and run for a mistress - the last plain, unrenovated pub left in Wapping.
