Barts
£££Behind an unmarked black door at the back of Chelsea Cloisters, and the one bar in the guide that asks for a password. Cocktails arrive in antique books and cigar boxes.
Bottarga
£££The Pachamama group's second Greek restaurant, a small, dark room on the King's Road with a covered, heated terrace: raw yellowtail, a whole grilled sea bass, crisp lamb belly.
Daphne's
£££A Draycott Avenue fixture since 1964, and still the Chelsea room people book for a long lunch.
Dinings SW3
££££The most-cited Japanese room in London across these sources - izakaya-scale plates done at sushi-counter precision, with a courtyard.
Ixchel
£££A Chelsea room that leans as hard on mezcal and the bar as on the kitchen.
Kutir
£££A Chelsea townhouse done as an Indian hunting lodge, with a menu built around game and the outdoors.
Made in Italy
££Sold by the half-metre on a wooden board, on the King's Road since long before London cared about Neapolitan dough.
Mucci's
££Every starter is £10 and every main £20 - one of the first London restaurants to build its whole menu around fixed pricing by course, rather than a time-limited offer.
Owner Giuseppe Mucci introduced the 10/20 pricing so regulars could order without watching the bill. Menu runs from cicchetti through pasta and pizza to steak and fish. Terrace seats around 50. At the World's End end of King's Road, a long walk from any tube - the King's Road buses are the practical way in.
Restaurant Gordon Ramsay
££££Three Michelin stars held continuously since 2001, which makes it the longest-running three-star restaurant in London. A small Chelsea dining room rather than a grand one - the reputation is entirely the cooking.
Opened 1998, third star in 2001, and it has never lost it. Bookings open well ahead and go; the lunch menu is the cheapest way in. A quiet room rather than a scene.
The Cadogan
££££A Belmond drawing room on Sloane Street with a pianist playing through the service - the quiet end of the London tea circuit rather than the spectacle end.
The Fox & Pheasant
££An 1846 back-street Chelsea pub bought by James Blunt and his wife Sofia in 2017 and restored rather than reinvented - two small bars, a garden, and pub cooking done properly.
Hidden on a residential street behind the Fulham Road, which is most of the appeal. The Sunday roast is the meal to come for.
The Ivy Chelsea Garden
£££A walled garden behind the King's Road, dressed seasonally, with a conservatory for the months it is too cold to sit outside.
A chain, and the article says so - the garden is the reason it is here, not the kitchen.
The Sea, The Sea
££££The fishmonger that supplies Ikoyi and KOL, now with a 40-seat bistro above and a ten-seat seafood bar below - you can buy the fish on the way out.
Zia Lucia
££Offers four different doughs including a 48-hour and a charcoal base, which makes it the most useful of the group for gluten-sensitive diners.
