Barbarella
££Big Mamma's Canary Wharf room, done out as a 1970s Cinecittà film studio and named after the Jane Fonda film - T-bone steaks and filled pasta under a lot of glitter.
Opened June 2026. Steps from the Canary Wharf DLR and Jubilee platforms, and a few minutes from the Elizabeth line.
Blacklock
££Chops pressed under a vintage Blacklock iron AND a proper dry-aged steak list from £16, at prices that undercut every other chophouse in central London.
Dishoom
££The Irani cafes of old Bombay recreated in careful detail, and the bacon naan roll that made it a breakfast destination as much as a dinner one.
Any party size can book before 6pm; after 6pm bookings are for groups of six or more only. Most tables are held back for walk-ins either way. Seven London branches; the Branches tab has six named.
Hawksmoor
££££British beef dry-aged and grilled over charcoal, in rooms that were mostly something else first - a brewery, a bank, a ballroom.
Karapincha
£Twin sisters Vasanthini and Dharshini Perumal, from Kandy, started as market traders and now run three counters: Unit 14 inside Canary Wharf station, Old Spitalfields Market and Mercato Metropolitano at Elephant & Castle.
Lina Stores
££The mint-green Brewer Street deli since 1944, now with restaurants attached.
Fresh pasta counter and deli; the restaurants came much later than the shop.
Mailinda
££Old Beijing copper pot and charcoal skewers in the same sitting, plus chive boxes and guo bao rou - a neighbourhood canteen for the Isle of Dogs rather than a destination.
Market Halls Canary Wharf
££Eight kitchens and two bars over two levels beside the water, with outdoor seating on the dock - a rare Canary Wharf option that is neither a chain nor an expense account.
Mercato Metropolitano
£Italian-founded food hall with more than forty traders, heavy on pizza, fresh pasta, arancini and fritto misto.
A venue, not a restaurant - the traders inside change. Six minutes from both Elephant & Castle and Borough.
Pergola on the Wharf
££A greenhouse-like rooftop food hall on top of Crossrail Place, wrapped in plants - one of the more distinctive rooms among the Wharf's food halls rather than another basement.
Roe
£££Roe by Fallow at Wood Wharf, and the roast here is creator-backed rather than critic-backed - two video reviewers, no masthead.
Simmer Huang
££A simmer pot rather than a hot pot: the ingredients arrive already stacked in the pan and cook down dry, and once you have eaten the top layer the staff pour broth in and it becomes a hot pot for the second half.
Halal. The two-stage format is unusual enough that first-timers should expect the pot to change halfway through.
The Gun
£££A Grade II listed early nineteenth-century pub on the Thames at Coldharbour, looking across at the O2 - a genuine old building in an area that has almost none left.
The Ledger Building
£An 1800 dock building on West India Quay that once held the West India Docks ledgers, with a colonnaded front and a quayside terrace - and by some distance the cheapest place to eat or drink at Canary Wharf.
On West India Quay, a footbridge from the Canary Wharf towers and next to the Museum of London Docklands, which is free - the two make an easy pairing. Order at the bar or by app.
Zia Lucia
££Offers four different doughs including a 48-hour and a charcoal base, which makes it the most useful of the group for gluten-sensitive diners.
