40 Maltby Street
££A natural-wine importer's arch serving food off a blackboard - the original of the Bermondsey arch format everyone else copied.
Small, largely no-bookings, and closed more days than it opens. Check before travelling.
Bon Vino
££Neighbourhood Italian near London Bridge, picked out by TOPJAW alongside Flour & Grape.
Casse-Croûte
£££Three dishes per course chalked on a board, a room the size of a front parlour, and no concession to anything but France.
Crystal China
££Dry hot pot, which is not hot pot at all in the broth sense - the ingredients are stir-fried in mala oil and arrive already cooked, so there is no simmering and no waiting.
Flour & Grape
£Bermondsey Street pasta-and-wine spot; short menu, low prices, long queues.
Hakata Ramen + Bar
££Named for the Fukuoka district the style comes from, doing Kyushu tonkotsu on Bermondsey Street with enough room to actually sit down.
José
£££José Pizarro's standing-room sherry bar on Bermondsey Street - a handful of stools, a lot of jamón, and no way to book.
Legare
££Opened 2019 by Jay Patel (ex Barrafina) and chef Matt Beardmore (ex Trullo), in the warehouse streets by Tower Bridge.
Neighbourhood Italian in the historic Shad Thames warehouse quarter.
M Manze
£The oldest surviving pie and mash shop in London, open on Tower Bridge Road since 1902, with the original tiling and marble counters.
Daytime only and closed Sundays, like most pie and mash shops. Liquor is a parsley sauce, not alcohol - worth knowing before ordering.
Maltby Street Market
££A run of railway arches off Bermondsey that started in 2009 as the scrappy alternative to Borough, and is now the main contender to it.
Weekends only - it is not a weekday destination.
Pique-Nique
£££The Casse-Croûte team in a former park pavilion in Bermondsey, built around rotisserie chicken and a short set menu.
Pizarro
£££The sit-down sibling to José a few doors up - same chef, tables instead of stools, and you can book.
Santo Remedio
£££Edson and Natalie Diaz-Fuentes cook the dishes most London Mexicans skip - mole negro, soft shell crab tacos, and guacamole topped with grasshopper.
Sollip
££££A Korean husband-and-wife team cooking European technique through Korean ingredients - the daikon tarte tatin with kimchi is the signature. One Michelin star.
St John Bakery
£The custard doughnut that every other London bakery has since tried to copy, sold from a Maltby Street arch.
Tower Bridge Collective
£Thirteen independent kitchens over two floors a minute from Tower Bridge, opened October 2025 - Korean, Thai, Palestinian, Ethiopian and Neapolitan pizza, with a play area and sandpit almost no other food hall bothers with.
Trivet
££££Two stars from a chef and a master sommelier working as equals - the wine list is the other half of the proposition, not an accessory.
WatchHouse
£Started in a nineteenth-century watchman's hut on Bermondsey Street and has become the most polished coffee group in London.
