Alain Ducasse at The Dorchester
££££Classical French haute cuisine at three stars, including the Table Lumiere - a private table for six ringed by a curtain of fibre optics, and the single most requested seat in Mayfair.
Inside The Dorchester on Park Lane. Ask about the Table Lumiere specifically when booking; it is not offered by default.
Bacchanalia
££££A Mayfair room built as a Greco-Roman fantasy, designed by Martin Brudnizki, with marble sculptures by Damien Hirst and hand-painted ceiling murals by Gary Myatt.
The most-cited room in the instagrammable corpus - six of seven sources name it.
Bar des Prés
££££Cyril Lignac's first restaurant outside France, pairing French cooking with Japanese - black cod caramelised with miso, langoustine ravioli, crispy rice with caviar.
Benares
££££Named Best Fine Dining Restaurant in London at the Asian Curry Awards, and a Berkeley Square fixture for two decades.
BiBi
££££Chet Sharma's Mayfair room, cooking regional Indian dishes through a fine-dining lens with a drinks list built to match.
Bonheur by Matt Abé
££££Matt Abé left Restaurant Gordon Ramsay to open his first solo room, and it took two Michelin stars within three months - about as fast as that has happened in London.
Brasserie of Light
££££A crystal-encrusted Damien Hirst pegasus hangs over the room inside Selfridges - subtlety is not the objective.
Brown's Hotel
££££The intimate, club-like Mayfair option - panelled and low-ceilinged where The Dorchester is a long bright promenade.
Cecconi's
£££Soho House group's all-day Mayfair room behind the Royal Academy - wraparound windows, striped marble, white-jacketed service.
Serves through the day, from egg-white omelette to lobster spaghetti.
Chisou
£££Open since 2002 and seconds from Oxford Circus - the most central serious Japanese room in London, which is most of the point of it.
Chucs Mayfair
£££Eight tables of 1950s Riviera glamour on Dover Street, from the clothing brand of the same name.
Very small - eight tables - so booking matters more than the walk-in-friendly rooms elsewhere on this list.
Claridge's
££££Art Deco Mayfair with its own house blend of Assam and Darjeeling, served in the Foyer and Reading Room. The default answer when someone asks for the traditional one.
Club Mexicana
££Tacos, nachos and burritos built on jackfruit and vegan chicken, started as a market stall and now in Kingly Court - the rare vegan restaurant nobody eats at because it is vegan.
Also at Seven Dials Market and on Commercial Street in Spitalfields. Kingly Court is the sit-down one; the market sites are counters.
Coya
££££The food is better than the room's reputation suggests when you order Peruvian rather than around it: the signature ceviche platter runs sea bass, corvina, yellowtail and tuna, each cured differently,
Crisp Pizza at The Marlborough
££Carl McCluskey's Crisp, previously only in Hammersmith, brought into central London inside a relaunched Mayfair pub - with the team behind The Devonshire.
TWO VENUES IN ONE. The ground-floor pub is walk-in only and pours Guinness; the pizzeria is in the basement and takes bookings through SevenRooms. IMPORTANT: pizza is not served on Mondays even though the pub is open 11:00-23:00. Pizza runs Tue-Thu 11:30-21:30, Fri-Sat to 22:30, Sun to 20:30.

CUT at 45 Park Lane
££££Wolfgang Puck's first restaurant in Europe, running British native breeds, USDA Prime and Japanese wagyu side by side over a konro grill.
Fallow
£££Whole-animal and root-to-stem cooking pushed further than anywhere else in London - offcuts, byproducts and discarded species treated as the menu rather than a footnote.
Runs a Sunday roast and a breakfast service as well, which is why it surfaced on both of those passes rather than on a best-British listicle.
Fenix
£££The London branch of a Manchester restaurant, opened in March 2026 under chandeliers on Piccadilly: Athenian tartare, langoustine orzo, wagyu stifado.
Fortnum & Mason
££££The tea merchant's own salon, opened by the Queen in 2012 - the one place where the tea list is the point rather than the cakes.
Gaia
££££The 2023 London branch of a Greek-Mediterranean group from Dubai, Monaco and Doha: gemista, octopus and fava beside bluefin tuna with caviar, and a bar on the first floor.
Goodman
££££A New York steakhouse done straight - leather booths, a specials chalkboard, and both USDA and British dry-aged beef on the same menu.
Gymkhana
££££Modelled on the colonial-era gymkhana clubs of India, and the highest-decorated Indian kitchen in the city.
Hawksmoor
££££British beef dry-aged and grilled over charcoal, in rooms that were mostly something else first - a brewery, a bank, a ballroom.
Hélène Darroze at The Connaught
££££Three stars for cooking rooted in Darroze's native Landes, in south-west France - a regional French kitchen at the very top end, which London has almost none of.
Third star awarded in 2021. Inside The Connaught, so the room is the hotel's rather than a restaurant's own.
Hide
££££Three floors above Green Park with the Hedonism wine cellar underneath - the list runs to thousands of bins.
Il Gattopardo
£££Massimo Pasquarelli - Abruzzo-born, a decade under Alain Ducasse, previously executive chef at the Ritz-Carlton Singapore - cooking classic Italian on Albemarle Street.
Sharing is encouraged and portions are generous. Three ways to sit: the main room, the light-filled terrace, or the crudo bar. The £20 Pasta & Vino counter offer makes a Mayfair Michelin-listed kitchen unusually reachable.
Isabel
££££A Beaux-Arts dining room off Albemarle Street, with a bar downstairs that runs late.
Named by two sources for the look rather than the cooking.
Jamavar
££££Named for the handwoven Kashmiri shawl, cooking across the whole subcontinent rather than one region of it.
Kai Mayfair
££££Held a Michelin star for the best part of two decades on South Audley Street, cooking Chinese food for Mayfair rather than adapting Mayfair to it.
Kanishka
£££Atul Kochhar cooking the north-eastern states - Assam, Nagaland, Sikkim - which almost nowhere else in London attempts.
Kwãnt
££££Erik Lorincz, formerly of the Savoy's American Bar, running a basement room under Shepherd Market.
Lilibet's
££££Ross Shonhan went from exec chef at Nobu to founding Bone Daddies, and has now opened a full-dress Mayfair seafood room - an unusual arc.
Masala Zone
££Thalis and street-food plates at prices well below the Mayfair rooms, from the group behind Amaya and Chutney Mary.
Maza
££££Greek mezze at Mayfair scale, from the OPSO team.
Mercato Metropolitano
£Italian-founded food hall with more than forty traders, heavy on pizza, fresh pasta, arancini and fritto misto.
A venue, not a restaurant - the traders inside change. Six minutes from both Elephant & Castle and Borough.
Mount St. Restaurant
££££Over 200 works of art hang in the room - Warhol, Freud, Picasso - above a Mayfair pub, with a menu drawn from the cooking history of London itself.
Murano
££££Angela Hartnett's Mayfair dining room, starred within four months of opening in 2008.
Named after the Venetian glass-making island. Northern Italian cooking in a formal Mayfair room.
Nobu Old Park Lane
££££The original London Nobu, and the room that put miso black cod on menus worldwide. Co-founded by Nobu Matsuhisa with Robert De Niro, which makes it the celebrity-owned restaurant in London that is actually about the food.
Park Chinois
££££A 1930s Shanghai supper club recreated on Berkeley Street, with live music downstairs and cabaret rather than a quiet dinner.
Row on 5
££££Jason Atherton's flagship, named for the 'refinement of work' - Spencer Metzger cooks British produce with a French hand, down to turbot with its own liver in the sauce.
Sabor
££££Nieves Barragán Mohacho cooks her mother's Basque and Galician repertoire downstairs and roasts suckling pig in a wood oven upstairs.
Scott's
££££Trading since 1851, and the grandest seafood dining room in London. Under-sixes are admitted only at weekend and holiday lunch, and from May 2026 it takes assistance dogs only.
Shanghai Me
££££Lacquered wood and 1930s glamour twenty-eight floors above Park Lane, looking down the length of Hyde Park.
Sketch
££££Afternoon tea inside an art installation - the Gallery, rebuilt in yellow and copper by Yinka Shonibare and India Mahdavi, and the egg-shaped lavatories are as photographed as the food.
Sparrow
££Spaghetti with pistachio pesto, lobster linguine, spicy vodka rigatoni.
Sushi Kanesaka
££££Thirteen covers inside 45 Park Lane - nine at the counter, four in a private room - doing omakase only, from the Tokyo original.
Omakase only, no a la carte. Opened July 2023.
Tamarind
££££The first Indian restaurant in the world to win a Michelin star, and still a Mayfair basement doing tandoor cooking at that level.
Temaki Mayfair
£££The handroll bar that started in Brixton in 2021 and moved central - temaki made to order, plus crispy rice, wagyu sliders and sandos.
Tendril
£££Vegetable-led cooking a minute off Regent Street that behaves like a neighbourhood restaurant, with real technical skill on texture.
The Araki
££££A no-choice menu at around £310, built on rare ingredients and served in two sittings a night to a handful of people.
Tuesday to Saturday only, two sittings. Closed Sunday and Monday.
The Cocochine
££££Larry Jayasekara cooking inside a Mayfair townhouse owned by the gallerist behind Hamiltons - the art on the walls is the collection, not decoration.
The Connaught
£££Understated where the rest of Mayfair is gilded - precision and craft rather than spectacle, and cheaper Monday to Thursday.
The Connaught Bar
££££The martini is mixed at your table from a trolley of tinctures and you choose as it goes - twice voted the best bar in the world, and on the list more times than any other bar ever.
The Dorchester
££££Served the length of the Promenade, opening with a glass of Veuve Clicquot poured tableside. The grand end of Mayfair, where Brown's is the club-like one.
The Dover
£££Italian-American cooking on Dover Street, in the mould of a New York supper club.
The Guinea Grill
££££Grilling dry-aged grass-fed English beef in a Mayfair mews since 1952, and still doing the steak and kidney pie that wins pie awards.
The Mayfair Chippy
£££Fish and chips treated as a restaurant dish rather than a takeaway, with oysters, crab and mussels alongside - trading since 2015 and carrying an AA rosette for it.
Seven days a week for lunch and dinner. Takeaway runs alongside the dining room.
The Ritz
££££The most recognised afternoon tea in London, served in the Palm Court with a pianist and a dress code that is actually enforced.
Jacket and tie required for men; no jeans or trainers. Multiple sittings a day and it books out months ahead.
The Stafford
£££Down a St James's cul-de-sac, with 380-year-old wine cellars beneath and far fewer tourists than the Piccadilly names.
The Wolseley
£££A 1920s car showroom turned Viennese-style grand café, and the London power breakfast - as well as the best-value serious afternoon tea.
Does both ends of the day well: breakfast from early, afternoon tea later. The room is the draw either way.
Theo Randall at the InterContinental
£££Theo Randall spent fifteen years running the kitchen at The River Cafe before opening this Park Lane dining room.
Hotel dining room, so it keeps longer and more reliable hours than most of the independents on this list.
Umu
££££Kaiseki in the Kyoto tradition - a fixed seasonal progression rather than a sushi counter, which makes it the odd one out among Mayfair's Japanese rooms.
Veeraswamy
££££Open since 1926 and the oldest surviving Indian restaurant in Britain, above Regent Street, with a Michelin star to go with the history.
Wiltons
££££Founded in 1742 as George William Wilton's shellfish stall near the Haymarket, which makes it older than everything else in the guide by more than a century. Saturday is dinner only and Sunday it shuts.
The certificate on its website is a Michelin Guide listing, not a star. Several published guides report it as a star.
