In this guide
The City layers Roman walls, medieval churches and modern towers; Shoreditch and Spitalfields add markets, restaurants, street art and nightlife.
Best for: food, nightlife, history, modern architecture and east-London transport. Think twice if: you want quiet weekend streets in the City or a traditional West End atmosphere.
Best things to do
- Visit the Tower of London and walk beside the Thames.
- Explore St Paul’s, the City’s lanes and a public viewing gallery.
- Browse Spitalfields Market and Brick Lane.
- Walk Shoreditch street-art routes respectfully.
- Continue to the Barbican or Museum of London Docklands.

| Value-focused | citizenM Shoreditch | Compact rooms close to nightlife and transport |
Shoreditch rooms can hear bars and street activity. The City is quieter on weekends but may offer better hotel rates.
